Dec 30, 2021Erisson Lima
As we close out the year, and head into 2022, we thought it would be a great opportunity to highlight some of the unique and more memorable things that have happened this past year in the world of jump rope.
Jumping rope has taken social media by storm. New world records have been set. Even celebrities are taking up jump rope. More people are jumping rope now, than ever!
If you notice a jump rope accomplishment missing from our list, let us know! You can find us on Instagram at @elite_SRS.
Here are some of our favorite highlights from 2021!
We all know how tricky it can be to master double unders. However, for Ryan Ong Alonzo (also known as Skipman), they seem to come pretty easy. Back in October, Ryan completed a total of 40,980 double unders over the course of 12 hours. More than double the previous world record! Even better, he did it using our patented Bullet COMP speed rope.
With limited access to gyms and exercise classes, people have turned to jumping rope as their preferred method for staying in shape. With more than 1 million posts on Instagram and over 900 million views on TikTok, it’s pretty clear jumping rope is more than just trending. People like Jimmysaysrelax have 2.4 million of those views.
The jump rope craze has not only taken social media by storm, but news outlets across the world have also taken notice. Outlets like CNN and BBC have shared stories on the explosion of jump rope and the associated health benefits.
While the sport of jump rope is still awaiting official approval for the Olympic Games (which is highly likely), we did get a pretty awesome double dutch halftime show at the recent 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. If you haven’t seen it, check it out here.
It’s always cool to see celebrities taking part in the activities we love. And recently, jumping rope seems to be pretty popular amongst certain celebrities. From Jennifer Garner to Lebron James, more and more stars are picking up a jump rope.
In November, the Bella Twins show off there jump rope skills on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Leave it up to Tik-Tok to take just about anything and create viral challenges out of it. Jumping rope included! Over the past year we’ve seen some pretty cool jump rope challenges. Some of our favorites include the #EenieMeenieChallenge, #FootlooseChallenge, and the #EdamameChallenge

This year, during Macy’s 95th annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, 112 athletes from all around the world came to New York for a massive jump rope performance. Such a cool opportunity for those athletes and a huge milestone for the sport of jump rope.
This past Summer, in Chicago, over 500 women came together for a 40+ Double Dutch Club meetup. The club, which was started 5 years ago in Chicago, now boasts over 20,000 members on Facebook and has branched out across the country. How cool is that!?
